Feb 2007

Greetings from the home office on Dorr Street, deep in the heart of historic central Topeka, Kansas!

Our latest exciting news is that we have been invited to meet with Governor Sebelius on Friday, Feb. 16th, to present her with the CD. Gov Sebelius is one cool lady, and very supportive of musicians, so we are very excited to meet with her. In March we have been invited to Salina to be a presenter for the "We Kan" Conference. This conference brings representatives from all over the state to encourage small town community development. Our project will give those small businesses or organizations a contribution for each CD they sell. Part of our overall goal from the conception of the project was to have a "give back" side to it where others could benefit from our work. We will also be in Garden City at the Kansas Sampler Festival the first Weekend in May. One of the artists on our CD, Jody Coder and Pride of the Prairie, an award winning western band will be there too. Judy and the "boys" recorded the song "Sante Fe Trail" and it's a good one. They really know how to make the music come alive.

During the past week, Cally has been in constant touch with Disc Makers about the proofs for the cover and inserts for the CD. It's quite a process. It's even harder when you have never done it before. Sure, you can pay hundreds of dollars and have them create your artwork, but since we have a "artist in residence" and we don't have a lot of cash, Cally has been tackling the job herself. We even used her original photos. So when you get your CD you can also appreciate that is is truly a Kansas product from the ground-up. Home grown and completely preservative free! The copyrights have been sent to the official places and after a few more verbal exchanges with the powers that be, we should have those CD's by the first week in March. Maybe sooner...maybe later....we cannot wait to show them to you!

Latest News!

Things have been very busy for us the past few weeks as we have “officially” released “Prairie Glimpses” The Kansas Song Project on march 18th, at a party hosted by the Kansas History Museum. Our thanks to Julie for creating a wonderful atmosphere and afternoon of music for the folks that attended. We sold a lot of CD’s and even autographed a few for those who wanted signed copies. Several of the artists performed music from the CD and since we had a lot of Kansas musicians attending, we had a rockin’ jam session following the program. Cally and I talked about the songs and introduced the artists. The Museum had closed at five o’clock but they let us keep playing for the remaining staff till after six. It was a historic day for Kansas. Julie is even thinking about having another program this summer as an outside event. That would be a fun time!

On March 21st, Cally and I attended the WeKan Conference held in Salina Kansas. This event is sponsored by Marci Penner and the Kansas Sampler Festival. It included representatives from most of the counties in Kansas. Marci and WenDee did a great job lining up speakers and presenters on subjects ranging from small town economic development to creating tourism and promoting Kansas arts. The Kansas Sampler Festival is coming up on May 4th and 5th in Garden City and will have groups and individuals from all over the State showing off their best area features for people to experience. We will have a booth for the Kansas Song Project and will be playing music from the new CD. Our friends and neighbors Judy Coder and Pride of the Prairie will be there too. Please come and see us if you attend. It’s at the Zoo in Garden City which we hear is a beautiful setting. I’ve never been to southwestern Kansas so I am looking forward to seeing some new country.

If you are looking to purchase the CD you can now order it from CD Baby. It was just posted there a couple of days ago. You may also purchase one through the Kansas History Museum, The Sternberg Museum, The Historical Association of Nicodemus Kansas; and through Kansas Originals Stores and website. If you are in or near Topeka you may purchase it from the Mulvane Art Gallery and Museum at Washburn University, at Lola’s Coffee Shops, Heifner Nursery and Freda and Maude’s Coffee and Gifts. We will also have it available at the ERC Designer’s Showhouse starting April 14th.

Part of the proceeds will go to the Battered Women’s Shelter as well as all the other good work done by the Women’s Resource Center.
Mother’s Day is just around the corner and the CD would make a unique gift for mom’s that love Kansas or Acoustic music. If you combine the CD in a basket of other goodies I bet she will pick you as her favorite son or daughter!

Please consider signing our guestbook. We would love to hear from you!
